Daily fantasy eSports are alive and well at DraftKings. Thanks to sports being shut down across the board because of COVID-19, eSports have been gaining in popularity faster than ever before, and DraftKings has helped to lead the way by making fantasy eSports more widely accessible to the public. Their latest addition is Call of Duty. It’s been one of the hottest games on various systems since it was first released and adding it to the line up of available daily fantasy eSports is a big win for fans.
New to Call of Duty?
Call of Duty has been around for years, so there’s a good chance that you’ve watched it as an eSport, or maybe even played it yourself. But, if you’re new to Call of Duty, you don’t need to let this be a disadvantage to you. Here are a few of the basic things that you need to know before you put together your first Call of Duty fantasy team.
Call of Duty is a multiplayer shooter game. In this structure, teams consist of five players on each team. There are three different game modes, called Search and Destroy, Domination, and Hardpoint. The mode will ultimately have a bearing on who you should draft on your team and how much you should be willing to spend on those players.
Right now, the official Call of Duty League consists of 12 different teams. Your fantasy team can consist of any of the players that are currently scheduled to play at a given event. This will vary from day to day, but that’s part of what makes this eSport so interesting.
Tips for Drafting a Team
Just like any other fantasy sports competition, there are certain things that you will want to take into account when drafting your fantasy team. At DraftKings, you have six position slots to fill and you can only choose three players from any given team. You have a Captain, four flex players, and a team. The team counts toward that three-player maximum, so once you select a team, you can only choose two players on that team to include on your roster. Each event in Call of Duty carries a certain point structure with it. For example, a kill gives 2 points, while a death is -1 point. Choosing a winning team gives you 4 points per game and 10 points per match.
The Captain on your team will usually carry double points, depending on the type of contest that you enter. Because of this, drafting a more expensive player as your Captain is usually smart as more expensive tends to equal a better player. Looking at what each team has done in the past, along with how they split up duties within the game, will give you a better idea of who should be your Captain.
Getting Started
If you’ve never played at DraftKings, the first step is to create an account at their site. Fantasy sports are not allowed in every state, so be sure that your state has legalized this game before you get started. Because they are one of the leaders in the industry, DraftKings does have safety measures in place to block out of state players or those that are not legal to play the game from their site, but it is good to know what your local laws are before you get started.
Once you’ve created an account, you will need to fund it. Always be sure to never spend more than what you’re willing to spend on fun. There’s no guarantee that you will win money at this game, even though skill will help you to increase your odds of doing so.
Finally, find the right contest and right buy-in to suit your interests. Draft your team and enjoy! Watching these matches is always a lot more fun when you have a vested interest, and fantasy eSports at DraftKings allows us to do this in an exciting new way now that they have included Call of Duty. Have fun!
